Eagerpig Newsletter – 3rd May 09

Hello again everyone, another busy time since the last newsletter with heaps happening both on and off the track, particularly with the start of the MX Nationals and the World Junior Motocross Championship selection. There has been plenty of travelling around with more to come over the next while so read on to see what has been happening and what is to come in the near future.....

Victorian Institute of Motocross

It’s been fairly quiet here with no sessions over the last few weeks however everyone has been training and getting ready for their respective State Title series, this is where their hard work off the bike will start to pay off with increased fitness and mental strength helping them through the longer and tougher events. Coming up we have two sessions during May, one at Newry and one at Cobram, both tracks are excellent for learning on plus the Junior riders have the added benefit with major events at these tracks this year.

Coaching Schools

Two schools during May with positions available, Newry on Saturday 23rd May and Cobram on Saturday 30th May. The Newry track is now fully booked out as far as coaching schools go, they will not be accepting anymore dates so make sure you book a spot in a school before all positions are filled as no more dates will be added, plus we are all restricted to numbers for the schools so there are only so many riders we can take. As for Cobram, Eagerpig is the final school before the Junior State Title round only 3 weeks after which will be the final chance for a good workout on the track before the event. Like usual, any questions or to book a position just call or email myself.

Racing

Since the last newsletter I have headed out to Ararat for their Open, a Gippsland Centre round at Newry, Oz MX Nationals at Wodonga, Oz MX Nationals at Canberra, and the Victorian Senior MX Titles at Broadford. I must say the racing I have seen so far this year has been excellent, heaps of riders
have really stepped it up with close battles going on everywhere. Highlights for me so far would have to be Cody Mackie riding crazy at the Canberra MX National round with the new format looking like it worked a treat for the crowd, and just yesterday at Broadford with Harrison Wooding and Alex Morris going bar to bar for the entire second U19’s race not giving one another an inch all the way, great racing and showing one another respect during the race and after it, the spectators definitely appreciated it and I don’t think there was anyone not clapping! Coming up is the first round for the Victorian Junior MX Titles at Ararat in 2 weeks, best of luck to everyone and I will see you there.

State Motorcycle Sports Complex – Broadford

You may remember late last year at a VIM session we tested a section of the track with some mulch added to it, the entire track has recently been covered with it and over a short time is bonding really well with the soil making the track very rideable and is holding moisture very well. If this last weekend is anything to go by it has made a massive difference to track rideability and dust management which are both good things.

2009 FIM Junior Motocross World Championship – New Zealand

Most of you will be aware with what has been happening here through the main websites so I won’t go in to it too much, 12 85cc riders and 14 125/250F riders have been selected to attend an AIS Camp (Australian Institute of Sport) in Canberra which starts this Wednesday 6th and finishes Friday 8th, from this squad we will select and name a final 8 riders plus 2 reserves per class giving us a total of 20 riders, where we will send the final 8 per class, a total of 16 riders, on a plane to NZ in August. Naturally as the Team Manager I will be attending this camp and fly up on Wednesday morning, hopefully next week all the decisions will be made with the final list published and it will be full steam ahead. I will have plenty of logistical stuff to deal with to ensure the riders have everything they need waiting for them when they arrive in Taupo so they can perform at their very best and bring it home for individual and country, if you are after any further information on this trip/squad check the MA website where there is even a microsite set up specifically for this event..... GO AUSSIES!!!

That’s it for this time, best of luck out there and I will see you at the track.

Regards,

Mark Willingham
