Eagerpig Newsletter – June 2008

Another month down, it has been a pretty crazy one so read on!

What’s been happening:

Victorian Institute of Motocross

Plenty of racing action this month for most of the riders and plenty of training for the others. Some of the highlights from the OZ MX Nationals had Tim Lonsdale with a 3rd in one race giving him 10th overall and Alex Morris with a great performance sitting in 14th overall. Harrison Wooding rode excellent at the Newry round of the MX Development Series taking the round win after an exciting battle with Dylan Peterson (2nd) and Jason Reed (3rd) with an awesome pass around the outside of Reed with half a lap to go to take the win by only a few bike lengths, Chris Gay and Hayden Harris both rode to strong finishes also. Stephen Zappelli made an excellent return to racing after having some time off due to injury with 2nd overall for the round, great to see him back on the bike and riding well. Round 2 of the Victorian Junior MX Titles at Melton now sees Harrison Wooding leading the points from Chris Gay in the 250F class, while the role is reversed on the 125 with Chris leading from Harrison (awaiting posting of official points from Motorcycling Victoria to confirm). Hayden Harris has had another good round showing constant improvement with 3rd place in a 125 race while Luke Young is going fairly well on the 150F but is looking to ride as well as we all know he can at the final round. Mitch VanVliet has made the step up to Pro Class on his ATV seemless, already taking race wins and giving the big boys plenty to think about. Lachlan Terry has been back racing after his injury a few weeks back, he has been taking the Off Road races by storm on his 150F and is doing really well at the national series and just took out the state round held at Welshpool last weekend. Stay tuned for more good performances!

Barrabool Junior Squad

No sessions this month but we have been seeing most of the riders out at the events racing with a few ups and downs but overall everyone is going pretty well, keep it up guys.

Coaching Schools

The school at Central Victoria (Toolleen) was a really good day. It was a little uncertain on the drive up due to the bad weather and racing the weekend beforehand, when we arrived it did look a little ordinary but once we were on the bikes it turned out to be a really sweet day. The track was rough with heaps of ruts around corners and jumps but it made for really good skills practice and opened up a few ideas for different lines that most of the riders had never really thought about trying. It was very technical but I think now the attending riders are ready for anything thrown up on the day of the state titles coming in a few weeks.

Racing

It is the busy time of year at the minute, this month we have been out to a few events helping riders at a day of the Rosebud open, up to Newcastle for the Raymond Terrace round of the OZ MX Nationals, Newry for round 2 of the MX Development Series and finally Melton for round 2 of the Victorian Motocross Titles.

Other

Again a few more people have taken up the Eagerpig Merchandise this month and we are receiving good reviews, particularly now with the cold as our jackets are soooooooooo warm and clean up really well after getting filthy dirty!!! Thank you all for your support once again.

Looking ahead:

Victorian Institute of Motocross

The next VIM session will be a track day on Wednesday 9th July at Rosebud, until then all the riders have some pretty big events to compete at including the MX Nationals, MX Development Series, Victorian Junior MX Titles, Victorian Senior MX Titles and Regions which will keep them all working hard over the next month so good luck to everyone.

Barrabool Junior Squad

The Barrabool Squad fires back in to life this month with a session on Sunday 15th of June. Tom Ovens will head straight back home after competing at the Victorian Senior MX Titles at Bairnsdale on the Saturday while I stay the extra day to help some riders on the Sunday also.

Coaching Schools

Currently our next open coaching day is not until 17th September at Rosebud just 2 weeks before the Australian Junior Titles at Wanneroo. Rosebud is a really good track to practice some sand riding before making the long journey over to Western Australia. No doubt this day will fill pretty quickly so please contact me early to ensure you reserve your spot. Any other coaching sessions we book in will still be advertised here however we have no available dates on weekends until after mid August so any extras will be during the week until then. Any mid week private or small group sessions can still be organised over the next few weeks.

Racing

Another busy month ahead, as you would have read in the last newsletter I have a 12 week stretch of attending the races, so far I have done 3 of them so a long way to go! Next weekend I am off to Murray Bridge in South Australia for round 6 of the OZ MX Nationals, followed by round 1 of the Victorian MX Titles at Bairnsdale, then the final round of the MX Development Series at the Lakes track in Newcastle, and finally the last round of the Victorian Junior MX Titles at Toolleen. No doubt I will run in to everyone this month, see you all out there and best of luck to the riders.

Other

On to the merchandise bandwagon again, we are working on some jumpers to go well with our polo shirts, vests and jackets, it just seemed logical to fill that spot! I will share some more news on them when they are ready.

Another newsletter done, hope you are finding them informative in keeping up to date with our events and some of the progress of the riders, until next time be safe.
