Plenty of action this month both on and off the track, hopefully this newsletter gets everyone up to speed!
Victorian Institute of Motocross
The 2008 VIM wraps up this weekend with a fairly casual
day at Barrabool where we will be going over what we have covered during the
year in the morning, followed by an open ride in the afternoon. Will be good
to catch up with most of the riders and look at how they went over the course
of the year and go over their intentions for next season.
The 2009 VIM started last weekend on Saturday 1st November at Geelong’s
Skilled Stadium, looks like another great bunch of riders all keen to do their
very best. We started out with some goal setting and nutrition, along with a
questionnaire provided by our Sports Psychologist who will be utilising this
information in a future session. In the afternoon we held our first fitness
evaluation for the year so we can gauge improvement as we go. We have been lucky
enough to secure the services of the same people we used last year which is
great as they now have a greater understanding of what the riders go through
and how best to assist them in reaching their goals. There will also be presentations
from some new faces covering some new topics, not giving too much away just
yet! Looking to have our first on track session during December, track to be
confirmed.
Coaching Schools
We have a little bit to get through before the year is out, then we will be in full swing starting in January. Coming up this month we have a club based day at Wonthaggi on Saturday 22nd for some of their members and are hoping to turn this into a regular group for next year. I am really looking forward to this one as I absolutely love the Wonthaggi track. In mid December we are looking to do a day at Barrabool with the funds going towards the saving Barrabool campaign, we ran one late last year and raised over $2000 for the club and are only too happy to help out again. Anyone interested can shoot me an email and I will have more details soon.
Racing
This month I have only been to the SuperX at Geelong’s Skilled Stadium followed by the Arenacross the day after. Although I was only able to watch parts of the SuperX due to work commitments, what I did see was awesome. Global Action Sports, the guys running the series, are improving it every round which upsets me a little as I won’t be going to any more, will definitely be watching it live on Foxtel though! The Arenacross was also great, an excellent opportunity to ride in a great venue for heaps of riders.
State Motorcycle Sports Complex – Broadford
As I mentioned in the last issue we have been running organised
practice days on the Broadford SX track so riders have access to a maintained
and watered venue to ride on. The next day will be Thursday 6th November between
2pm and 6pm. No other sessions after this have been arranged just yet, with
most SX riders being away over the next few weeks it may not be viable to add
any more sessions. Keep an eye on the MV website or phone the track info line
on 03 5784 4163 for updates.
Keep in mind we are hoping to move across to the MX track in the future to hold
regular sessions there, all going well they will start mid January after the
Christmas track closure.
2009 FIM Junior Motocross World Championship – New Zealand
As many of you would know this world championship is to
be held in Taupo, New Zealand on the 15th-16th August 2009. Applications for
Australian Team Manager and Team Coach were sought by Motorcycling Australia.
I have been appointed Team Manager with Greg Moss being appointed Team Coach.
With the two of us working together I have no doubt we will be able to provide
the riders the best possible opportunity for this event and in to the future.
Obviously this is a massive opportunity and challenge for me, and one I look
forward to greatly.
I do not have all the specific details as yet, however I will include any information
I can as it comes to hand. For obvious reasons some of it will not be shared
publicly so please respect the need for that.
Other
Again, as mentioned last issue I will be making some changes to the look and content of the newsletter. This will also take place on the website with old information being deleted, new information being added and a short time in between where it will not appear ideally while these changes are being made. Due to this the logos on this newsletter are missing, this month I have taken them off while I finalise everything for the new season and make the necessary changes, for this I do apologise.
Until next month keep it safe, and keep an eye on the website for updates.

Mark Willingham
